Animals Alive!

People dressed differently back in the early 1900s but animals look the same.

The intrepid photographer who took the photos in my glass negative collection seems to have enjoyed taking pics of animals as well as people. (I’ve added some AI to bring them alive.)

This photo was taken in West Point, PA on Monday August, 20, 1906. The girl’s name is Valeria Shottig By today’s standards, she is over-dressed for the dog (or cat) days of summer.

Here she is in the AI version.

No date on this one but it was shot on the beach in Atlantic City.

A pooch lazing on the porch on Sunday, October 18, 1914 in Audubon, NJ. The AI program is almost scary in bringing this pup to life.

The next one is sort of sad. It’s the Philadelphia Zoo with two polar bears in a tiny cage with a very small (and dirty) pool.

The one below was taken on Monday, August 21, 1911 in New Hanover Square, PA.

Little did they know that was the very day that the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre in Paris. I only mention it because I made a documentary film on the theft and have a Substack about it.)

Mona Lisa Is Missing
The Mona Lisa is the most famous -- and most enigmatic -- painting in the world. But the biggest mystery surrounding the masterpiece is her remarkable, yet little known, disappearance from the Louvre

Now, the chickens come alive.
